Carrying on traditional culture
I want to be an evangelist to guide the power of Kyoto

We want to utilize the craftsmanship involved in kimono in a wider range of fields! KUROKASHI KOBO was established out of this desire. We offer not only the distribution of kimono, but also the fusion of new design and craftsmanship while utilizing the traditional skills that have been handed down from generation to generation. We hope to team up with businesses and craftsmen in traditional industries to maximize their individual strengths and collaborate with them. We will continue to take an approach that is in tune with the new, ever-changing times.

》Weaving
Nishijin textiles in Kyoto are yarn-dyed fabrics made of the finest silk yarns, with warp threads stretched and weft threads inserted between them to create patterns. The weft threads are inserted between the warp threads to create the pattern, which is delicate and subject to change depending on the temperature and humidity of the day. The fabric is made through the planning, pattern-making, design, raw material preparation, weaving machine preparation, weaving, and finishing processes, which take about three months or more from the weaving stage. The fabrics born from the interactions between thread and thread, person and person, are the most beautiful, lustrous, and inspiring.

》Dyeing
White fabric woven by the Tango Chirimen gold and silver threading technique with an original pattern is further dyed by a technique called soak-dyeing. Shinzen is a dyeing technique in which the dyed material is soaked in a dye solution. The ground pattern is enhanced and the gold and silver threads shine very elegantly. The fabric finished by the exquisite blending of colors created by the craftsman’s skill is supremely beautiful and deep.

Weaving and dyeing are two different techniques, each with its own unique qualities. We utilize the traditional techniques of these craftsmen, while adding our own original colors and designs. We believe that our “thing” is to continue to think of various ideas and convey them to others. We will keep in mind to create “products” that are not bound by conventional uses.
